Hot on the heels of being named as one of the world’s best hotels in the 12th Annual International Condé Nast Traveler’s Hot List, Brisbane’s Emporium Hotel has taken out Best New Hotel in the prestigious 2008 HM Awards for Hotel & Accommodation Excellence.

The 2008 HM Awards for Hotel & Accommodation Excellence recognise leading hotels in Australia, New Zealand and the South Pacific.

“The HM Awards showcase the very best the industry has to offer,” said James Wilkinson, Managing Editor of HM magazine (Hotel and Accommodation Management Magazine)– host of the sixth annual HM Awards.

“The 2008 HM Awards were the most successful ever held. Over 400 entries were received for the 39 categories – that meant 650 people, properties, hotels and chains were nominated for HM Awards in 2008,” he said.

Emporium Hotel General Manager, Peter Savoff, accepted the Award on behalf of his hotel team. “We’ve just celebrated our first birthday and it is fantastic to see how the Emporium has been embraced as a welcome addition to the Brisbane Hotel sector,” he said.

“We would also like to recognise the vision of our developers and owners, Anthony and Francine John, who had the courage to create a brave, new, luxury-hotel style, whilst remaining a proudly independent operator.”

“Finally, I would like to recognise and thank every member of our small, extremely hard working hotel team. It is they who have breathed life into this magnificent property and every day we strive to provide a level of guest service that reflects our mantra of “exquisite stays....”

Nominations in the HM Awards were open to hotel staff across Australia, New Zealand and the South Pacific. Over 30 leading travel writers and industry leaders decided on the property categories.

The Emporium Hotel is in Fortitude Valley, Brisbane.
