Tangalooma Island Resort on Brisbane's beautiful Moreton Island has been awarded Getaway Best Family Accommodation at the prestigious Australian Gourmet Traveller 2008 Travel Awards.

The awards recognize the nation's best travel experiences - from fine luxury hotel to eco adventure tourism.

Brisbane Marketing CEO John Aitken said it was a fantastic result - both for Tangalooma Island Resort and Brisbane's Moreton Bay and Islands.

"It's a testament to the region's increasing status as a top tourist destination," Mr Aitken said.

"Promoting Moreton Bay and Islands to locals and interstate and overseas visitors is a major focus for Brisbane Marketing. Its proximity to Brisbane means visitors can have a capital city and island experience in one day, which is particularly unique."

Tangalooma Island Resort's Director of Sales and Marketing, Mr David James was thrilled to have won this award.

"To win this national award in a very competitive category is a tribute to the sustainable development and the planning strategies Tangalooma Island Resort has implemented," Mr James said.

"Tangalooma Island Resort is fortunate to be located in the Moreton Bay and Islands region, which is undoubtedly one of Queensland's greatest natural assets."
