Thanks to the growing popularity of buying local and eating seasonal, Jan Powers’ Farmers Markets came out the winner in our markets poll, with 30% of the votes. It may have helped that Jan Powers organises three farmers’ markets across Brisbane, at Mitchelton, Wynnum and the original location at New Farm’s Powerhouse. Or, it may be that the cosmopolitan atmosphere, quality of produce and friendly farmers makes it the most popular.
If you have been to the Green Flea markets at West End on Saturday mornings then the crowds give a clue to the markets’ popularity. Our poll backs that up with 20% of you picking it as a top market destination.
Buying fresh, cheap fruit and veg at Rocklea Saturday markets is also a winner, with those markets scoring 16% of votes.
With so many great markets across Brisbane, it was difficult to even make a short list of eight that we had in the poll. What’s so good about markets is that each of them offer something for everyone. You get to know the ones you like to visit – which stock the best fresh food and which are great for buying a gift or a bargain. And if you’ve never been to some of these winning markets, perhaps it’s time you did!
