This poll about Brisbane's best sports stars inspired lots of votes and lots of comments. We narrowed the poll down to only five sport stars, even though our full article included seven men, two women and even one horse.
But does it really surprise anyone that Wally Lewis remains the King, easily beating the competition with 45% of the votes? His exploits in State of Origin are still legendary. Even Wally's statue at the front of Suncorp Stadium must make the NSW supporters feel threatened as someone insists on painting it blue around State of Origin time.
Second place goes to tennis legend Rod Laver with 21% of votes and motorcycle racer Mick Doohan did well with 14%.
More interesting than the voting numbers were the comments we got about who else should have been featured on the list of Brisbane best sports stars. It wasn't possible for our article to feature everyone but it was great to see some nominations for the girls - netballer Vicky Wilson and swimmer Stephanie Rice. One reader thinks that Dick Johnson deserved a mention and a Michael Voss fan commented too.
But just as in sport though, at the end of the competition, there can only be one winner. And that winner is Wally - hands down.
