Funny that one bridge can win our hearts and another is distinctly unloved.
In the poll to find Brisbane’s favourite landmark, the city’s Story Bridge crossed over to the winning side with 40% of votes.
By comparison, the Gateway Bridge is only admired by 2% of people as a landmark. What’s not to love about the graceful Gateway Bridge and its soon-to-be-replicated span? Or does its regular traffic hassles mean there’s not as much love for the Gateway?
South Bank, under constant evolution and seen from the Riverside Expressway, is our next favourite landmark. South Bank might have scored well in this poll because it is perfect postcard material and not many other cities can show off a beach in the middle of the CBD.
Other significant historic buildings came third but trailed a long way behind in this beauty contest.
