I first ate at Lock and Load with a friend who raved about their exclusive Omrah Merlot - hard to find in Bris-Vegas's bottle shops. I so enjoyed the food and atmosphere that I have returned multiple times and on the whole, have always been very satisfied.
Service is laid-back but efficient; barring one occasion where our waitress appeared to forget about us and the coffees we had ordered to enjoy in the cool and shaded back area. She seemed quite baffled when we didn't glance at the breakfast menu that we had ordered and asked for just some drinks.
The food that I have sampled at Lock and Load is always delicious. The prosciutto wrapped chicken breast, on a bed of lentils and spinach, is a wonderful mix of flavours and textures. My very male companion was a bit put off by all the "bean things" but wolfed the meat part of the meal down in a very short time.
The chilli riccotta linguine was so tasty that I had to let a button loose on my jeans when I finally left the table. The linguine was cooked to perfection and adorned with deliciously spicy morsels of ricotta.
The wine and drinks list is quite sizeable ... although the Omrah Merlot that first attracted me to Lock and Load is now sadly gone and is replaced with the Omrah Shiraz. Look out for the West End Iced Tea - a great spin on the much loved classic.
