HOPE from Brissy says:

OH DEAR GOD!!! the anti-christ has arrive to destroy what the valley is and what the valley stands for.
I have worked and played in the Valley for many years and when word came of this superclub going to the valley was heard - I was very excited. I was thinking something like Family on a bigger scale.
When I finally got around to going into Cloudland, I nearly threw up! The words Potenious, City Folk, Upperdy, arrogent, wannabes, self obessed comes straight to mind. Not denying it the place its self is impressive. But OH MY GOD - the cliential and the dress standards and the music (or lack there of) is nothing short od a JOKE!
The drinks are STUPIDLY over priced and the entire vibe of Cloudland spits in the face of what the Vallley had always been about. Cloudland you have done nothing but bring more "city folk" from places like the Normaby, Vic and exchange into the valley to start more fights, overcharged and annoyed people, supplied NO great music (I feel sorry for your Djs).
Bad bad move !

Glory from Brisvegas says:

Sadly, I agree in essence with Hope. I too was excited as me and my friends are long term Family members - some having platinum cards. This association seems to not count for anything though in Cloudland. I agree that the clientele is hit n miss - disappointing when it was promoted as being for over 25 yo. I'm cool with a dress code but, like the Press Club, it isn't consistent and not realistic. A bunch of us, and most were hot guys, well groomed, fashionable and cashed up tried to get in and one was rejected cos he had 'soft' shoes not hard shoes and they were still expensive and fashionable footwear! Yet another time I got in with Converse. Inside at that time (Friday night) were people wearing tired chinos and bit daggy frankly. Cloudland should have a consistent dress code not changeable depending on the night. With the prices they should be attracting the cool, younger, and older fashion conscious professionals, inner city dwellers, as well as tourists who want to be seen, want somewhere cool to go and meet people without harassment, want to spend money ... Sky Bar and Bowery Bar are like this. I thought it was my expectations perhaps not being realistic but everyone I take there says the same thing. The vibe somehow is missing cos it's all too disparate. Oh and having to queue a second time for the upstairs bar is just heinous. I just a drink from a bar with a view not to meet the Pope!

Clubsy from Brisbane says:

I went to Cloudland for the first time last weekend and I have to say its so pretentious and poorly put together. Oh it looks fab to a dweeb at first but I could not for the life of me see what the point of it all was. It just seemed tacky disparate and had no vibe. The music was bad and the drinks service upstairs on a quiet Friday night was so slow. Lots of staff wander by but give gestures that they're not there to serve and so nobody serves.

I'd rather have reasonably price rinks than jet powered hand dryers. Just by throwing lots of money at shite and adding a few Names doesn't make it a cool place to go.

Seems like no direction or theme or anything really just a bunch of silly looking booths/cages an not much else reason to be there.

Big thumbs down from me. Move it into the city. The valley is too full of over hyped garbage joints with no real atmosphere or action.

Such a try-hard, wannabe joint....Millions spent to give us something so predictably lame?!?....

And the discretionary dress-codes...one week youre cool to go in, the next its not on.....puhleasseee

On ,too long for the good old days of The Underground, Hotel LA, Fortunes, etc.....when clubs were real clubs - sleazy, sexy, innocent and fun....now we have dumps like GPO, Cloudland, Monestary, Fringe Bar, Family, etc....

Get back to the city and suburbs ppl - wayyyyy much more fun to be had.

Extremely disappointed in the so called "Super Venue" that can't even get my month in advance reservation right. The club itself might look up market and falshy but I will not be going back. The poor service and snotty management got under my skin.

I booked a table for a 21st birthday just over a month ago and confirmed the booking and table 5 days before the night. When I arrived on the night the table I had booked had been given to a group of three women. We were ushered to what looked like a bar to sit with complete strangers, directly under the DJ and speakers. I explained I'm sorry I have made a booking for that specific table. The waiter spoke to the manager who told us that our booking was made mid this week and they could not give us that particular table. I explained that the table was book a month ago and I was not happy. Then manager said they have to give tables to bigger groups of people because they can't fit them anywhere else. So I asked if I could possibly sit at one of the other empty tables around, seeing as the restaurant only had three other tables being used at the time. But alas no, we were not allowed to sit there either in case they got "very busy". I would have walked out by this stage but I had several friends meeting us here after, two of which where denied entry.

Appart from not being able to hear anything over the bongo drums above my head, the food was over priced, small serves, very bland and served a bit too cold for my liking. The desert I had specially ordered a month prior to have "happy 21st birthday [partner's name]" came out saying "Happy 21th". [NOTE THE SPELLING MISTAKE]

Overall experience: I've got better service at MacDonalds and I will not be going back.

Ventured into this tawdry venue as part of my friend's birthday. First and last impression... McCafe on Acid - minus the cheeseburger. Sad, tacky and I have to say... a bit of an embarrassment being there. For all those denied entry, thank your lucky stars, at least you retained your dignity.

i went to this joke of a place cuz a friend begged me to. i knew a bouncer so we were let in immediately. we jumped the whole line which was back to empire at that stage. i was not dressed up, so that goes to show. if the bouncers like you your in. if they dont find you attractive i guess your not. that is just pathetic. i hate that place and i just wanted to get out of there. the ppl look like retards in there. there is no vibe no nothing. just bland boring crap place. i wud never go there ever again. oh it was pathetic.

Cloudland and Family have both been designed by the same amazing designer.
The only difference is the people that go to the Family have destroyed the impressive interior with their ecstacy-influenced dance moves and acid-fueled conversations.
I don't know what on earth people are referring to when they say Cloudland has "ruined" the valley...? How much lower could it go? The valley is a total dive and cloudland actually brings a bit of variety to the area. I'd take cloudland over dingy Mustang with their cage-like smoking area, or The Bank with the people having sex on the dancefloor anyday.

Went there for lunch on a Sunday afternoon. It was ok. The food is a little expensive but so are other places. The staff were very pleasant and helpful. The menu is a little limited for choices if you don't like seafood. Some of the decor is a little ghastly.I am not a smoker but the smokers area was interesting with is totem pole,I am glad I stumbled across it.

Fullo from Brisbane says:

What a croc! For all the coin that was dropped, and hype that was built up about this place, management sure know how to kill a venue. I have to agree with the majority of the comments raised above regarding the overall vibe of the place. Its a pretentious, snobby, over-priced venue on a power-trip. The music blows, but the majority of the patrons wouldn't realise this because they're too busy telling you how good they are. And where do I start on those apes that hold the fort at the door and have a cheap giggle enforcing their dress standards. Shorts, thongs, hi-vis... I've got no dramas in not being allowed entry - shame on me for even trying. But if you're approriately kitted in attire that will get you into any other venue in the state, and you're given the excuse "oh, not tonight man... brown leather shoes are ok on Saturdays, not Fridays", I'm simply astounded. In the words of the ever-inspiring Rick James - "I wish I had four hands so I could give this dump four thumbs down!"

hi_time from Brisbane says:

Fullo.... maaate. Dare I say it, I do believe you took a wrong turn at Fitzy's when Robbo, Dusto, Dazza and Shazza informed you of their location.

All I ever seem to hear are the same whiny-like remarks. Need I remind people that Cloudland, just like any other venue, is a privately owned establishment with the right to refuse any person entry for any reason whatsoever. There's no discrimination. There's no hate. It's simply a group of people running their business as they see fit. Sure, you are within your rights to dislike their ethos but to hide behind text on a page when labeling staff who are doing AS THEY ARE TOLD "apes", it shows your true character.

In my opinion, I'm truely thankful for those guys making a judgement call in not permitting you entry. If you are willing to show a blatant lack of respect to a fellow human being over something as trivial as a pair of shoes then I dare say there would be no place for you or anyone who bats for you inside an arena such as Cloudland. I'll continue to frequent the place. I'm not a drinker so prices don't concern me. I'm not overly phased on the choice of DJ's either. I happen to know them intimately and I will support them wherever they play and moreso, HOWEVER they are instructed to play.

It's a spectacle. Embrace it for what it is, not for what you believe it should be. It's a place that will undoubtedly provide inspiration to other hoteliers and small business owners looking at creating something different.

Larouche in the Valley is an example of the above. I urge you all to test this little place for a taste of Cloudland meets local know-how.

Anna from Brisbane says:

I have been frequenting Cloudland since it opened, and I can't tell you how thankful I am that there has been a place designed and built for an entirely new demographic of Brisbane.
Yes, I have been dress coded there. I am a young woman, who knows security and the hosts, and there was still an issue. The door hosts themselves have been dress coded! This is not about favouritism. The thing that people are invariably failing to realise is that Cloudland is giving you a golden opportunity: Get dressed to the nines, go out, show off, give yourself the star treatment and head on in.
Yes, I've seen people whose reservations have been bungled- but what I have ALSO seen is the staff going the extra mile to resolve the situation and to have everyone leave happy, feeling wanted and welcomed.
I've seen the speed of service. I know that generally speaking, people tend not to like waiting for drinks. What I can tell you though, that a lot of people miss, is that Cloudland is not a speedbar- it's a cocktail lounge. If the staff can serve three people at once, they will. If they can stop to have a 30 second chat to you while you spend money, they will. If they can cater to your specific tastes and create you something custom made, they will. Why are people so antsy about it? You are in a beautiful venue, with plenty to look at, and hopefully surrounded by good friends. Tell me your Rum and Coke isn't THAT important? If you can't enjoy yourself without your hand glued to a drink, perhaps do some soul-searching.
The management team (including supervisors) has been known to remove intoxicated guests, but they have ALSO been known to mingle with them, shake their hands, gain feedback, offer them the world- and here's the clincher- deliver it. This is not a team that hides in their offices counting money. If there is anything you need, it will be done.
To finish, a personal shout out to the staff who work the door- security and hosts. You know who you are. To those people who called you apes, their lives are worse off not taking the time to know you. You are the people who will comfort a girl who's crying. You are the people who will use words, not force. You are the people who could swear back at the people abusing you, but you don't. The world would be a far better place if just 5% of the people out there demonstrated the class you have. Now, there's something to think about.

Chris from New Farm says:

The place is an absolute dive, avoid at all costs.

I used to manage other nightclub venues in the Valley so I can certainly understand and appreciate the need for an establishment to maintain a dress code, but Cloudland's dress code is terribly inconsistent and needlessly over the top. I was at Cloudland a few weeks ago (for the last time) and was with a group of 4 girls from Dally's Agency and the one male friend in the group was knocked back at the front door - the guy was good looking, dressed immaculately and uber cool - would have walked into any bar in Melbourne or Sydney without so much as a second glance. We couldn't believe it and said to the rather effiminate fashion policeman working the front door that he must be mistaken. In the end we all just laughed and shook our heads in disbelief and left, actually feeling rather embarrassed for the guy working the door and his unprofessionaly poor judgement call. Needless to say we left and headed off to Larouche, Bowery, Sky Lounge, X&Y Bar and Limes Hotel for a fantastic night..

Bianca.... You or one of your friends MAY have flagged my comment or it simply may have been someone who took offence at what I said.

Bianca, I seem to recall that night in question.

Now that being said I feel obligated to reply to 'Chris' from New Farm. I can't help but wonder who you really are. I have been a regular face in the Valley for the better part of the last 16 years and there is a sure fire chance that our paths have crossed. Having said this I would also like to enlighten the public on an all too common occurrence within the hospitality industry - the unwanted managers always seem to move on quicker than the others. You've stated that you had managed venues (plural) and this could realistically prove one thing - you were crap. Now, in saying this, I would deem myself correct in stating your opinion of others stands for nothing.

But to the real issue. It IS unfortunate that your friends were denied the privelige of entering an establishment as unique as Cloudland. I would have been there front and centre if I had known there were a handful of girls dressed in almost nothing with an IQ to rival that of the goldfish in Cloudland's water feature. No offence intended as I am yet to catch one of these on any of my visits. Goldfish, that is. It isn't uncommon to see doctors, lawyers, business owners and other like-minded professionals refused entry based on the clothes they choose to wear. While I won't agree with dress regulations entirely, it is a method used by staff to ascertain a person's compatibility with what a venue has to offer. It would be a safe bet that a person who had spent upwards of 17 million dollars on creating a haven would have the right to dictate who he or she would have enter. Just quietly, I am elated that a person who happily uses the word 'uber' in a sentence was denied. In fact, I'm chuckling as I write this, in a "Hey! That tickles" kinda way. I'm sure they chuckle in this manner in Melbourne and Sydney too.

lol looks like all are up in arms about this not so little place in the vally... what it comes down to my peeps is this......
if you dont have what is required well then you'll be restricted. although there is no dress code on the website and that this code can and does change constantly, that doesn't mean you shouldn't come on in. I understand the services - both via telephone, bar and music, have a long way to go ... talk about club cloudland.. this shouldn't stop you from comming in and picking up some hottie for the patrons are mostly easy on the eyes... just ask any of the the blokes or lasses for that matter on the front door.
but if you cant handle it your not forced to enter.....

Lots of sour people on here! wow. thankgod we dont listen to the outspoken minority that are the internet trollers, searching for anyway possible to express their bland opinions. At least backup what you say people. ie. its overpriced, the music is bad, everyones pretentious. well just because you didnt make that little bit more effort, or youd rather kick off your heels and go dance next door to the 'stang and dance to billie ray. it has a dress code for a reason, the prices are where they are at for a reason. Cloudland cost $17m to make and has free entry. its the most beautiful venue in Queensland if not Australia. They dont want crumbs there, they want you to make the effort, pay a small premium and enjoy yourself! you pay for luxury so stop complaining about the prices when you go there! i went there over the weekend and had a fantastic time, the music was great and the atmostphere was amazing.

C from Brisbane says:

I agree with Anna and hi_time. I've been to Cloudland on a few occasions and have always enjoyed it. It is amazing from the moment you walk in the doors. I like how the dress code and atmosphere is changed to fit - on a Sunday, it's nice to go somewhere decadent but relaxing.. enjoy a wine and the last part of the weekend in something that is a little too nice to wear during the day, but not zing enough for the evening... then on a Saturday night going in a lovely frock that is sophisticated but ready for a party.

Dinner there, I thought was lovely, reasonably priced considering the food, location and venue. I'm a student and I can afford it!

I agree that it is a cocktail and wine bar. I think that people comparing it to Family are aligning it to something that is not targeting the same audience. Family is a nightclub, predominately dance, so you would be served quickly in there considering that there is a lot more people and that people are there more to dance than enjoy the drinks. It's fast paced atmosphere is what makes it a good club! Cloudland is a great venue for getting a nice drink and getting personal service from the bar tenders, not having to rush around!

And finally, I have found the door hosts have always just been doing their job. They have smiled on the door, checked the ID and then opened the door.

If you don't like that sort of thing, perhaps it's time you opened your own venue? I think the Valley has something to offer for everyone. I've been to drum n bass gigs in The Step Inn and upstairs Empire, dubstep at St Pauls Tavern, dub and reggae to rock and roll at The Zoo, jazz at The Bowery and Sky Bar, trance and house at Family, some breaks at GPO, a bit of punk at 388 (or what's it called now?) new local acts at The Warehouse (downstairs Empire), casual drinks and a movie at Limes, wines from the bottlestore next door at Monsoon... the list goes on and on!!

It seems, Brisbane is emerging from adolescence, and having it's coming of age to me.

So many venues in one small place... We are SPOILED. The Valley has got it's choosin' shoes on. There is something for almost everyone in our town. Good on Cloudland for trying to make something happen in a place where too much is happening. It's their money, they can blow it if they want. If you don't like it, go next door... or behind... or across the street... or down the road... or take your broke ass home. Do the punters ever think of what they bring to the Valley? Revenue excluded, of course. That part doesn't count anymore. As this is a review page/ excuse reservoir for hi_time, I would have to say that Cloudland is not really my cup of tea. I'm most comfortable in thinking of the venue as a fantasy escape for common people. Like Disneyland, or Hollywood, or Westfields Chermside. The Bowery is the real deal. the bands are very entertaining and the D.J's on friday & saturday are actually the best I have heard in some time. But who am I?

People like to be able to hold proper conversations at Cloudland. I sure hope that Hi_Time was wrong and that you ARE pretty, because clearly you don't have a real lot else to fall back on.
Even if I didn't like Cloudland before, I'd probably go down to avoid people like you. There's only so many times a guy can hear "...and, like, duh!" in one night.

This is just a review page people, no reason for Cloudland fan's to get their back up. If you like it, great, say so, the same goes for people to dislike the place.
For people like Felix and co, it's a shame that you are under the delusion that Cloudland is some superior venue which "intellects" are drawn to. You have just proven most people's comments here, that the place has it's fair share of wannabe's. This is a fair comment especially since you have your opinion on who frequents The Mustang bar. The truth is, if I want a low key drink to start off the night, I (in the past) have walked in to Cloudland, however, like most people (probably Felix included) I have then taken off to a number of places in the Valley, to wherever fits my mood.
So, the rest of us will embrace all types of venues that Brisbane has to offer, while you can stay put at Cloudland, where you may or may not gain entry.

Steve from Brisbane says:

I have been to Cloudland once, after work with some colleagues we had dinner that was slightly overpriced but we enjoyed it.

After dinner a few of us stayed on and we met some friends later and had a great night - I have always thought clubbing was having a good time with your mates. I thought it was very different and we all had a good time. I have never managed to get into the club again, so that's my only view of the place - I must have been acceptable at that time only (Once I have been refused I do not bother trying to get in again, I am out for a good night not a competition with Doormen).

I think the Clubs in the Valley are all a bit hit and miss. You get into them no bother one weekend the next you don't, and your dress could be the same standard. I find this a bit frustrating, I have traveled extensively and done my fair share of clubbing in some of the best clubs in the World, yet here you go out for a night with a hit and miss chance of actually getting in and catching up with people you are suppose to meet. Its a shame, but because of this we do not go to the valley often, we go to other places, I thought Cloud land would have had a bit of consistency.. p.s. I am not covered in Tats, I dress to a reasonable standard and I never get into fights, and i spend money.... (could be my age late 30's)

I find it most humorous that those above have picked out minor grammatical errors in defense of the enlightened patronage of Cloudland, when there is a blindingly obvious 'typo' on Cloudlands own website. Pay particular attention to the final word in the following paragraph.

"Gentlemen – Enclosed Dress Shoes, Collared button up dress shirt and Dress pants. Jeans are acceptable providing they are a dark denim dress jean with no rips or tares."

Intellectual Central by the looks of it!
