This was honestly the most dissapointing meal we've had in Brisbane in 2 years. Booked online via their website - needless to say they didn't get the booking and even claimed they don't have a website!

Waited 10 minutes and got a great table.

We had 2 main meals: Duck with a potato block. The duck was cooked nicely but no sauce no taste , no excitement. My wife had spatchcock chicken. It tasted considerably less tasty than a Coles hot chicken. The spinach accompaniment and the fried courgette flower tasted as if they'd sat in oil all day. Horrible, so maybe the fact the portions were smaller than most restaurants starters was a blessing. Cheapest wine was $39, total bill $109. Instantly forgettable and we even considered going to Satay Hut on the way home as we were starving.

Service was good. Food 2/10 at best. At those prices thats not good enough.

I have to agree with Mike that the prices at River Canteen aren't quite reflective of the quality of dining.
I have dined there three times now and the meals just aren't up to scratch.
Compared to other Brisbane restaurants that have the similar pricing - such as E'cco, Brett's Wharf or Two Small Rooms - at which you can taste the quality in each gorgeous bite, the River Canteen menu is great on paper, but something is lost in the transition from menu to kitchen to mouth.
I think this is another case of using a great location as an excuse to charge top price for meals.
