We also had this problem with having 5 people. However, there was no negotiation and we were told by the manager to move and then he had the nerve to tell us that other customers don't complain about it!
The atmosphere is great and maybe if we had been drinking the food would have been more appealing but we found it bland and disappointing.
Overall, the only good thing about this place were the mint flavoured toothpicks! Not a place I will be going back to anytime soon.

I walked into El Toritos with an apprehensive mind-set, namely due to disappointing Mexican meals in the past. My mind-set was not improved by the fact that, although we had booked a table for 5 people, the staff expected us to sit at a 4 person table - and quite a small 4 person table at that. After a little negotiation, the staff agreed to put two tables together to accommodate us.
Once we were seated and the wine had been opened, I started to feel much more relaxed. The decor of El Toritos is decorated with rainbow hues - a variety of art-work and styles adorn the walls and creates an informal and warm atmosphere.
Our meals were delightful. I chose a chimichanga (mainly for the name, I will admit) and an open taco meal, for a measly $17. A large plate came out, piping hot (as warned by our waitress). The chimichanga was similar to an enchilada in that it was a filled tortilla, topped with cheese and grilled. My open taco was piled with chicken, salsa and salad. No beans - much to my delight.
My girlfriends and I savoured our meals and our bottles of wine (BYO) and finally rose to leave when we noticed we were the only ones left amongst a restaurant of upended chairs on tables! That just demonstrates what a relaxed atmosphere exists at El Toritos.
All in all, a great venue to enjoy a cheap and colourful meal. Make sure you specify how many tables you would like to avoid any earlier confusion - one of my dining companions commented that last time she was at El Toritos a similar confusion occurred.
