Frenchman Bruno Loubet heads up the kitchen at this Brisbane dining institution after an 18-month stint at Berardo’s in Noosa. A celebrated chef in London (he won his own Michelin star), he has chosen lifestyle over fame and settled permanently in Brisbane. Together, he and owner Francis Domenech (also a Frenchman) make a formidable team.
Loubet’s food is modern French with an emphasis on innovation and flavour. Compared to the upmarket London establishments he starred in, his approach to food nowadays is much more laid back.
Baguette has always been known for its consistently good service from waiters who are customer-focused. The décor is comfortable and doesn’t subscribe to the minimalist concrete/stainless steel school of restaurant design, and instead features some interesting contemporary art, which is for sale.
Baguette’s Lounge Bar opens out to trendy Racecourse Road in the historic suburb of Ascot – eight minutes from the city and on the way to the airport. This is a grown up, civilised bar where you can expect to get well made cocktails, good wine by the glass and authentic tapas.
