The Breakfast Creek Hotel is a landmark on Brisbane’s pub dining scene. Known by locals as the ‘Brekky Creek’ it has been serving up its famous steaks since the 1960s.
Renovations in 2002 have maintained the character of this 116 year old, historical pub. And now the Brekky Creek is an even better place to experience the casual, friendly and outdoor dining that is so much a part of Brisbane culture.
Part of the Brekky Creek experience is to line up and select your own superbly tender, aged fillet from the chilled cabinet and have it char grilled in an open kitchen in front of you.
And when you order from the open kitchen, you will receive an electronic 'buzzer' to inform you of when your meal is ready. Unlike the 'old times' where you needed to get ready to collect your meal with the infamous announcement over the PA system: ’Mr Jones, your barbecue is ready!’.
Just like over 40 years ago, the steaks are served with an Idaho potato, bacon sauce, fresh coleslaw, slices of tomato and a bread roll. And there are three famous sauces to choose from: mushroom, pepper or chilli. The sauce lady, Jenny, is the only one who knows the recipes.
There are, of course, options for the non-meat eater, including barramundi, char-grilled chicken and fantastic oysters, but it’s the steaks that have given the Brekky Creek its legendary status. They’re a favourite with patrons and critics alike, and have earned the hotel many awards.

- The Brekky Creek was the first to introduce beer garden style dining (in the late 1940s), the outdoor kitchen where customers could choose their own steaks (in the early 1960s) and the drive-through bottle shop (the 1960s)

- In 12 months, the Brekky Creek uses 2600 boxes of tomatoes; 1300 tubs of fresh coleslaw; 3670 tubs of sauce (mushroom, pepper and chilli); 1735 tubs of bacon sauce and 3466 crates of bread rolls.
