Surprise your guests with a Moroccan inspired dinner party and celebrate a feast that will be long remembered.
Director of Brisbane’s largest homewares store, Taste for the Love of Cooking, Jodie Macaulay, said a Moroccan theme is sure to impress.
‘The customs, fragrances, spices and colour of a Moroccan feast will really wow your guests,” said Ms Macaulay.
‘A wonderful idea that is borrowed from Moroccan culture is to fill a jug with warm rose water and approach each guest with a basin and towel so they can wash their hands in the scented water before the meal begins.
‘Traditionally, this custom is performed by a child to make it even more special.’
You can also serve mint tea in sparkling glasses throughout the meal.
Ms Macaulay said sharing food at the table is also an important part of Moroccan culture that can add a special element to celebrations.
‘Dishes are presented in the middle of the table and guests select what they like. Traditionally no forks are used to pick up food, instead hands or even bread is used to scoop up morsels.
This is something which may take some getting used to on Brisbane tables.
A final tip from Ms Macaulay is to use vibrant serving vessels and beautiful glassware to really set the occasion apart.
‘Fill cobalt blue bowls with radish and orange salad or couscous studded with ruby red pomegranates and green pistachios. Tagines are also excellent for Moroccan meals as they look good and are very easy to cook with,’ said Ms Macaulay.
‘You can also serve mint tea in sparkling glasses throughout the meal.
