Racecourse Road, Ascot may be in the middle of one of Brisbane’s most expensive suburbs, but that doesn’t mean all the restaurants cost a fortune to eat at. Instead you may be pleasantly surprised to find a range of budgets catered for and everything from gourmet delis to riverside seafood.

And you don’t have to be a lady who lunches or a member of the racing fraternity (whose home is nearby at Eagle Farm Racecourse) to eat on Racecourse Road. Breakfast seems to be the time that the precinct is at it’s liveliest. At the Lancaster Road end of the street, you are spoiled for choice of places to start the day. Cafe Restaurant Sebastien offers a specialty of smoked mackerel and other hearty breakfasts. Or there’s the slick scene at Pause, with vibrant blue seats. Many other Racecourse Road eating spots offer tempting brekky menus.

Part of Brisbane’s dining scene for over 25 years. Or go to one of Brisbane’s oldest established restaurants at Baguette, an excellent part of Brisbane’s dining scene for over 25 years.

There’s also the Ascot institution of The Lido.

It’s a short walk to the next group of cafes about halfway along Racecourse Road. But here is where you’ll find delicatessens galore with lots of places to eat well and buy well to take home gourmet delights.

At the river end of Racecourse Road, there are a few more dining options. These include Fiasco’s at the Hamilton Hotel and Vagelis Cafe. The only Ascot restaurant right beside the river is Brett’s Wharf. While technically not on Racecourse Road, Brett’s Wharf is only across the road and is close to the ferry terminal that takes its name. It is one of Brisbane’s top spots to enjoy seafood and fine service, riverside.

If you want a bite to eat after a day at the races or simply a pretty street to choose a delicious breakfast, then Racecourse Road Ascot is a good spot. Lunch and dinner is also on offer but don’t expect lots of pulsing nightlife in this quiet neighbourhood.

Don’t forget the nearby Portside dining precinct with lots of dining options.

Some Racecourse Road dining options:

Parking Some street parking on Racecourse Road, otherwise plenty in the side streets. On-site parking provided for Brett’s Wharf and Hamilton Hotel patrons.

Public transport You could arrive on the CityCat. Best if you plan to eat at the Kingsford Smith Drive end of the precinct as it’s a fair walk to the racecourse end.
