When you've got a family in tow, it's great to find a place that welcomes the kids too. Even better is a family friendly pub that offers children good food and fun too while the grown-ups can relax, enjoy a drink and a meal.
Here's a selection of some of Brisbane's best family-friendly pubs, where you're bound to get good value and great atmosphere. Not surprisingly, the best are often located in Brisbane's suburbs.
The Gap Tavern - This icon of a great suburban venue includes a playground, kids' meals and an indoor play room with Playstations. But the menu and atmosphere is sophisticated enough that everyone will enjoy it.
Everton Park Hotel - This northside family pub features an amazing children's playground (which apparently cost $500 000!).
Breakfast Creek Hotel - This pub is great because it has grass out the front for the littlies to play on. It books out quickly for big family days such as Mother's Day and Father's Day. Their famous steaks and beer ‘off the wood' are a must-have (with lemonade for good boys and girls).
Full Moon Hotel - Sandgate. This pub overlooks Moreton Bay and the views are superb. You can choose from the casual Ocean Terrace Café or the dining menu of the Full Moon Dining Room. Kids will love playing in the playroom.
Samford Valley Hotel - You'll find casual outdoor, undercover seating in the bistro. There's a sturdy playground and lots of other families making the most of the facilities. Great when you are on a day trip to Samford.
The Pineapple Hotel - The Pineapple has a decent kids menu (not everything is deep fried) with colouring-in on the tables too. The steaks are good quality and it must be doing something right to win the 2007 AHA Awards for Best Casual Family Dining.
Royal Mail Hotel - at Tingalpa is over 130 years old, the Royal Mail has a kids' playground and games room, right next to dining area. There are even regular children's events, held weekdays. There's a steakhouse, buffet options and an ice-creamery. Sounds good!
Waterloo Bay Hotel - Wynnum. Enjoy outdoor family dining with cool sea breezes, under large trees. The kids can explore the garden in safety while you explore the menu. After a satisfying meal, sometimes accompanied by live music acts, why not stroll down to the Manly Esplanade?
