Fresh seafood stores in Brisbane

Fresh prawns and seafood are an integral part of our Christmas feasts these days. But it's essential to get good quality seafood and to prepare for Christmas - one of the busiest seasons for seafood.

Find a fresh seafood store near you.

Our tips for seafood buying:

  • Order in advance - most stores will take orders in advance, generally for collection on the 23rd or 24th December.
  • Use extended trading hours - because business is so brisk, many seafood outlets remain open for extended hours (some even for 24 hours in the days prior).
  • Be prepared to queue. Remember it's Christmas though and stay merry.
  • Pack a cooler bag or esky and ice to get your goodies home and staying cool.

Some highly recommended fresh seafood stores are:

Samies Girl, Hamilton

With whole fresh fish laid out on ice, a choice of prawns and fresh oysters and freezers full of prepared seafood items, Samies Girl is always a busy spot known by locals as supplying good quality seafood. They often sell fish frames for making fish stock, and will fillet and clean fish for customers too. They don't take Christmas orders but are open from 5am on 23 December right through to 7pm on 24 December.

Fresh Fish Co

James Street Markets - plump and fresh whole fish. Filleting available. You know that the sushi and sashimi they also sell must be fresh. One benefit of this store is that you can easily find all the other ingredients you need for a seafood feast at neighbouring shops.

Gambaros

This name has been synonymous with fresh seafood in Brisbane for many years. Try the newest concept store at Emporium or the long established fresh seafood outlet at South Brisbane.

Morgans Seafood Markets, Scarborough

With the trawlers bobbing in the Marina outside, it feels good to buy seafood so close to the water. Morgans also sell live crabs and freshly shucked oysters. You can order all your seafood online and then simply pick it up on Christmas Eve.

Fish Factory, Colmslie

With an abundance of local seafood and fish sold fresh from Australian waters, you'll find imported seafood only in the freezers here.

Colmslie is also home to Raptis Fish Markets which has a good reputation.

George's Seafood, West End

This friendly West End supplier doesn't take orders but promises to have plenty of fresh stock available for Christmas. They'll be open from 3am to 6.30pm on Christmas Eve and will be closed from Christmas Day, reopening on 29 December.

Sunnybank Fish Market

There's plenty of fresh seafood to choose from, presented in buckets of ice. Get up close and look for the clear eyes of a super fresh fish when shopping here.
