More about Christmas in Brisbane
Anyone who has walked through a department store over the past month will have noticed that it's that time of year again... gift-buying time.
Christmas trees at every turn symbolise an impending, last-minute spending spree on its way. But for anyone who likes a tipple, it's easy to buy them a gift that will please, including sparkling wine, rich reds or premium beers. We have selected a few that make great gifts for the festive season. There is also some great gift packaging available for both wines and spirits on the market.
NV Nicolas Feuillatte Brut Reserve Particuliere $49.99
French Champagne is a must for the festive season. Nicolas Feulatte has been released for Christmas in a stunning pack with two champagne flutes and it is still one of the most reasonably priced champagnes on the market. The number one selling non vintage wine in France, it is a full flavoured wine with plenty of hazelnut and almond characteristics on the palate.
2005 St Hallet Old Block Shiraz $79.99
St Hallet are well known for pumping out some very tidy Barossan wines and this Shiraz is no different. Big, heavy black currant fruit on the palate with a lick of tobacco and charcuterie on the nose, this is classic South Australian Shiraz and I doubt there is a red wine drinking Dad who wouldn't delight in this. The perfect stocking filler in a timber gift box.
Johnnie Walker Blue Label Scotch Whisky $249.99
A very rare and expensive elixir that combines a few powerful yet exceptional mature scotches to make a whisky that is revered by drinkers of the spirit everywhere. Individually numbered bottles are presented in exceptional gift boxes. At the heart of this blend is Royal Lochnagar, a rare malt distilled near the Queen's holiday home near Balmoral and the result is dried fruit, mahogany and cigar smoke on the nose with Christmas cake and all spice on the palate. By no means is this for the novice.
NV Grant Burge Sparkling and Sparkling Red $19.99
Grant's sparkling Pinot Noir and Chardonnay blend is one of the most popular premium Australian bubbles out there. It has lovely green apple flavours and hazelnut tones and is packaged like products twice its price. For the first time, and just in time for Christmas, Grant has released a sparkling red in a similar package. A blend of Barossa Cabernet and Shiraz, this has sweet mulberry fruit and lashings of chocolate on the palate and is the perfect accompaniment to roast turkey on Christmas day. These also come in a very smart insulated cooler bag, perfect for summer picnics and barbeques.
All wines available at the above prices at Chalk and Cheese West End, Newstead and Auchenflower.
