If you love to start your weekend with the atmosphere, colour and bargains of a marketplace, then you might want to head to Brisbane's new Kelvin Grove markets.
In another sign of the popularity of markets in Brisbane, Kelvin Grove has a new weekly market starting this Saturday 7 June. They will then run every Saturday morning from 6am - 1pm at Kelvin Grove Urban Village.
Browse amongst 90 stallholders selling fresh fruit and vegetables, organic foods, gourmet stalls, plants, herbs, flowers, pre-loved clothing and bric-a-brac.
Located on Blamey Street, The Village Markets are an extension of the hugely popular West End Flea Markets, operated by Brisbane's market pioneer Peter Hackworth.
"Our West End Market has grown rapidly attracting a diverse mix of stall-holders and customers and we are fast running out of room, so rather than turn away great stalls we have decided to expand across town and open the Village Markets in Kelvin Grove," Ms Hackworth said.
The Village Markets will feature over 90 diverse stalls, with a major component of farm-fresh fruit and vegetables from surrounding farms.
"The fresh produce section of our market is a major draw card. Customers can purchase their weekly fruit and vegies directly from the person who grew them and they are often fresher and cheaper than in commercial stores," said Ms Hackworth.
Keeping in line with the community feel of the West End Flea Markets, the Kelvin Grove Village Markets will also have performances from local musicians and an array of ethnic foods and artefacts.
"We are confident the weekly Village Markets will be as popular as the West End Markets, if stall holder applications are anything to go by they are going to be even bigger!" Ms Hackworth said.
