A coffee love story

Merlo coffee tin with snow man in Vancouver, Canada

South America, Red Square, the Balkans, Iraq…world hot spots where you just can’t get your fix of Merlo. Or can you? From the tombs of Tutankhamen to the depths of the Great Barrier Reef and more recently to hot spots in the Middle East, the love of MerloCoffee knows no bounds!

There is no dancing around this topic – there are coffee nuts out there, and the coffeemakers at Brisbane’s iconic MerloCoffee want to expose them. Friends of Merlo’s little brown bean are being encouraged to send in photos of themselves and their tin of MerloCoffee from the strangest and most exotic places around the world.

In addition to entries from the places mentioned above, a letter was sent from a privately contracted Australian engineer working in Iraq to his friends and family entitled, A Serious issue in Iraq, and attached was the picture of his Merlo tin in the makeshift coffee bar at camp.

“After my first 8 week stint in 2003, I returned to Brisbane for R&R (rest and relaxation) with 3 items on my “do-or-die” list of things to achieve in the first few hours of my break: see my wife, have a proper shower and get some Merlo’s coffee into my bloodstream.”

MerloCoffee’s Dean Merlo said the entries so far have been overwhelming, often surprisingly strange, and an absolute testament to the Merlo bean.

“The creativity and the lengths people will go to get their Merlo fix isn’t uncommon. I'm enough of a coffee passionate to understand and sympathise with people out there who always seem to have an emergency supply of MerloCoffee hidden somewhere, in their backpack, their rations, the boot of their car or their suitcase,” said Dean.

To see the entries received to date, visit MerloCoffee’s Show Us Your Tins page. Each month, the best picture wins a prize.
