Started working life as a “rock-star” in the 1970s, survived the heartbreak of the band’s split-up, joined his hairdresser’s salon as an apprentice – and never looked back. Having expanded into education and event management, he now publishes Culture – Australia’s top hair and fashion glossy. Along the way he’s also managed to produce two beautiful girls. In short: life has been good.
What’s your favourite:
Word: onward and upward (I know these are words plural).
Drink: an excellent Aussie Shiraz.
Fruit: mango.
Place for a holiday: Moreton Bay.
Website: culturemag.com.au
Thing to eat for breakfast: porridge deluxe (a secret concoction containing sultanas, cranberries, bananas – and the crucial ingredient – a pinch of salt) served with honey.
Way to spend Sunday afternoon: watching the Brisbane Lions win at the Gabba (hopefully).
View in Brisbane: Glasshouse Mountains from Tangalooma.
What’s your middle name – does it have special significance? John, Gerard, Peter. I’m not so sure about John and Gerard (you’ll have to ask my Mum) but Peter was my confirmation name, which I chose after Peter Tork of the Monkees. Lame I know…but probably a clearer indication of where my head was, as a spotty 14-year-old.
Do you still have anything from your childhood? My emotional scars from attending a Catholic boy’s school.
If you could live anywhere, where would it be? Eumundi.
What can’t you live without? Easy! Susa (my wife).
