Using swimming pool water in the garden

Q: I emptied my swimming pool & because of the water restrictions in place I sprinkled the water on the garden killing most plants - especially ground covers.

Can I do anything to revive the garden? Is the soil ruined? Will it eventually kill my avocado tree? Ken – Cashmere

A: It is, of course, the chlorine in the swimming pool water that has burnt your plants.

Chlorine persists only for a short period of time in air, water and soil.

Your ground cover plants will grow back, and no … there should be no harm done to your avocado tree. It would be a good idea, though, to give the soil and the surrounds of your avocado tree a good drenching with clean tap water.

Hi,

Well then here's the further question re: pool water with chlorine and watering trees and garden, etc. Once the chlorine fully disperses from the pool water is it then safe to use on vegetation? ie. Are the stabilizers, etc. safe?

The other question is: what about salt water pools at let's say 3,000 ppm. Is this ever safe?

thank you,

rick
