Bob Dobbs is the Curator of Roma Street Parkland and has been responsible for gardens in Brisbane city for nearly twenty years. He has been in charge of everything ‘that’s green and growing’ in the Parkland from the time it was opened to the public five years ago.
Bob has always has a passion for planting things and nurturing them as they grow. Bob immigrated to Australia from Sri Lanka, where he was a tea plantation manager for over 21 years. He worked in nurseries during his first years in Australia.
Prior to joining Roma Street Parkland, Bob was with Brisbane City Council’s Parks Department for almost twelve years. He was in charge of ‘Parks Central’: the parks and gardens in and around the city. These included City Botanic Gardens; New Farm Park; Newstead Park; Queen St Mall; King George, Post Office, Cathedral and Anzac Squares; plus over forty other parks and gardens in the inner suburbs.
In 2004 he won a Churchill Fellowship to study major parks and gardens overseas.
