Take advantage of the many facilities and programs available all over Brisbane to keep you fit and healthy. There are parks in every suburb and plenty of bushland trails for do-it-yourselfers as well as a myriad of organised exercise and fitness programs.

Gyms and equipment

There are many to choose from in the inner city. Take a look at our directory listings and do some research about which gym may suit you best. There are gyms just for women, as well as some that have pool facilities for a complete workout. Gymnasium equipment can be hired or purchased for use in the privacy of your own home. Suppliers are listed in our directory.

Massage

Don't make fitness all about getting sweaty and sore. Massage and relaxation are important parts of keeping your body in shape. They help you decrease the stress in your mind as well as your body.

Personal training

If you can afford it, a personal trainer can accelerate your fitness improvement considerably. They offer one on one or small group training and will often come to you. They can be great motivators.

Indoor sports venues

Since there isn’t a lot of open outdoor space in the inner city for some sports, head inside to get active. QUT Gardens Point has squash courts for hire, and there are other indoor venues which offer rock climbing, indoor cricket, netball, volleyball and other sports. Our directory has more information about the various venues.

Swimming

Regardless of the season, it’s always a good time to swim a few laps. There are many public swimming pools all over the city. Inner city options include the Valley pool, Centenary pool, the quaint Spring Hill Baths plus 25 metre indoor pool at QUT’s Gardens Point campus in the city. Our swimming pool feature gives details such as opening times and facilities.

Gentle exercise and relaxation

Some gyms offer yoga and pilates classes and there are a number of groups in Brisbane who run tai chi classes. Just because you live or work in a bustling environment doesn’t mean you can’t unwind with gentle exercise or a relaxation session.

Dancing

Dance is a great way to improve your fitness, your coordination and enjoy a social atmosphere as well. Find a dance group and join in.

Walking

Organised walks depart from many places all over the inner city. Check out the events calendar on this page and put in ’walk’ as your keyword to find an organised walk at a time and place to suit you. Or check out our walking feature.

If you don’t want an organised walking group, head off on the Riverwalk or one of the many parks or forests around Brisbane. We have plenty of ideas for getting fit through outdoor recreation. You could just walk around your suburb and see the local sights - you may be surprised about what is just around the corner.

Tennis anyone? Or squash?

Some schools hire out their tennis courts and squash courts are often located in gyms. The fitness centre at QUT Gardens Point in the city centre has two squash courts for public use.
