Do you think you’ve got the guts to take on a new sport or at least give something new and exciting a go? Then take advantage of being RAW – a Real Adventure Woman.
This popular and long-running activity program offered by the Brisbane City Council tempts woman aged over 16 to step out of their comfort zone and instead perhaps to step out of a plane, off a cliff or onto a sailing boat.
It’s the range and depth (literally, with the scuba diving adventure) of activities which is exciting. If you’ve never had the opportunity to discover how to abseil, horse ride, go curling on ice, flip through circus acts or box, RAW gives you the chance.
The program of activities is designed to suit both beginners and those with more experience. The list of activities varies between programs but it always includes a selection of indoor, outdoor and water sports.
Specialist providers run each activity so you know you're getting expert instruction. One expert is Roadie Rob, a top mountain biker who teaches women how to tackle challenging rides and enter the sport.
Carmel, Rosalie and Claudia joined the RAW program with Roadie Rob and in the past 18 months have come a long way with their mountain biking. They rode the 100 kilometre ride in last year’s Brisbane to Gold Coast Cycle Challenge. They were also joined by Katherine, another RAW program starter, to finish second in the 4 Person Women’s Class of the 12 hour Mountain Bike Team Challenge at Kooralbyn. For them, RAW turned their idea of ‘giving it a go’ into a reality and they have competed in a variety of other mountain biking competitions.
Roadie Rob is running RAW Enjoying mountain biking activities on Sunday 29 June, 20 July, 17 August and 14 September.
So why not grab your girlfriends, check out the RAW program of activities, book whichever takes your fancy, and have an adventurous girls’ day out? Costs apply but are reasonable considering the normal fees for such a thrill.
