Most of us are well and truly feeling the cold right now.
The heaters have been dragged out of the cupboards, air conditioners set on reverse and car heaters blaring in the mornings.
But have you ever wondered how to get the most out of your heater? Or which type of heater is best to use in your house?
Anne Armansin from Origin Energy said most people don't realise how to efficiently use their heater.
But with so many heaters on the market, which one's best suited to which room?
Oil heaters:
- best suited for the bedroom
- also effective in lounge rooms
- best positioned in the corner of the room
- to keep costs down, have on high to start with and then turn them down low
Fan heaters:
- generally not very energy efficient
- usually personal heaters
- keep a metre clearance
Bar heaters:
- most unsafe type of heater
- higher the wattage, the bigger the room it will heat
Anne said to cut back on costs, take care of your passive measures first:
- wear sensible winter clothing, or using a rug
- draw your curtains at night
- use a sausage at the bottom of doors
- close the doors of the rooms you're not using
- switch your fans to reverse mode to push the warm air back down
But if you're looking for efficiency, Anne said you can't go past a reverse cycle inverter air conditioner because they're up to five times more efficient than any other heater
Instead of setting your temperature gauge as warm as possible, Anne said 20 degrees is the most optimum level for winter time.
