Waste

Drop off your storm-related green, general and food waste free of charge at one of Council's four transfer stations at Nudgee, Ferny Grove, Willawong and Chandler from 6.30am to 5.45pm every day. Separate food waste from other waste, preferably into sealed containers.

Normal waste collections resumed on Monday, 1 December for residences in the northwest's storm-affected suburbs.

Disaster Relief Grants

  • personal hardship grants of $165 per person and up to $765 per family may be available from the Queensland Government for directly impacted residents who have been unable to recover via their own means. Phone the Department of Communities on 1800 173 349 for more information.
  • means-tested essential household contents replacement and building repairs grant assistance may also be available of up to $10,100 for eligible individuals and up to $13,600 for eligible couples or families. Phone the Department of Communities on 1800 173 349 for more information
  • the federal government is providing $1000 per adult and $400 per child. Phone the Australian Government South-east Queensland Storms Disaster Recovery Payment Hotline on 180 2266 (24 hours)

Electrical Safety

  • Take care around electrical appliances and wiring which may have suffered water damage during Sunday's storm.
  • Don't attempt to fix appliances yourself.

Relief taskforce established

The state government has established a taskforce to coordinate rebuilding efforts of storm-ravaged homes in south-east Queensland. Council, the Master Builders Association and the Building Services Authority will be among the taskforce members.

Premier's Disaster Relief Appeal

Help those affected by the storms by donating money to the Premier's Disaster Relief Appeal.
