What do you do: I am the General Manager of QPAC’s Out of the Box Festival for 3 to 8 year olds at the Cultural Centre, which is a week long arts festival.
Why you love what you do: Because there is nothing like the experience of wonderful live theatre...the immediacy, the unknown, the ability to take you beyond where you are now and imagine what it might be like for someone else. To create an opportunity for children to experience theatre and participate in arts experiences is very special. Children are so truthful in their responses so you know immediately when something works, and their pure pleasure is a great reward.
And because I love to organise, and there is so much to organise in a festival!
What's your favourite:
Word: sleep-in.
Drink: cold chardonnay in summer, full-bodied red wine in winter.
Fruit: mango.
Place for a holiday: Peregian Beach...sun, water, reading a book lying in the sand then riding to the shops for a coffee...perfection!
Website: www.outoftheboxfestival.com.au
Thing to eat for breakfast: croissant with fig jam and a strong pot of tea.
Way to spend Sunday afternoon: spending the whole afternoon trying out a new recipe then sharing it and a bottle of wine on our deck with friends.
View in Brisbane: the river and the Story Bridge while riding along the floating walkway.
What's your middle name - does it have special significance? Elizabeth...mum says it was because it worked well rhythmically with the rest of my name.
Do you still have anything from your childhood? (eg teddy bear, fave book, memories of beach holidays etc) And what does it mean to you? Now that I have my own children I am really enjoying finding the books I used to read and sharing them with my kids. I recently read a book I was given for my fourth birthday to my four year old son. Good children’s books never grow old.
If you could live anywhere, where would it be? Paris...I love the idea of not needing a car – walking and taking the metro everywhere, buying fresh food daily at the local markets, the wonderful fashion, history and art, and weekends spent in the French countryside. Just need to work on my French!
What can't you live without? My gorgeous husband, spirited children and devoted family...and a cup of tea in the morning (apparently I am unbearable until I have had one).
