Online resources, databases and indexes
Births, deaths and marriages
- Queensland Births Deaths and Marriages -
Indexes to historical births, deaths and marriages can now be searched
online for free on the website of the Queensland Department of Justice
and Attorney-General. Dates range from 1829 to 1914.
Your Queensland ancestors might have moved from overseas or interstate so try also searching the free online indexes for the states of:
- NSW
- Western Australia
- Tasmania (this free register of Tasmanian records should be used as a guide only)
Indigenous family history
- Australian Institute of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studies Family History Guide [AIATSIS] - The AIATSIS family history unit has comprehensive guides, resources and links about researching Indigenous family history.
- Footprints before me - Information about Indigenous family history research by the State Library of Queensland.
Cemetery records
- Brisbane City Council Cemeteries - Search the Brisbane City Council's cemetery and crematorium records online.
- Cemeteries in and around the Brisbane region - This site has photos and transcriptions of many mainly smaller cemeteries in the Brisbane region.
War service records
- World War Two Nominal Roll - Check the nominal roll if your ancestors and relatives served in WWII.
- Australian War Memorial - The Australian War Memorial website has a wealth of information relating to Australian service men and women from all conflicts.
- AIF Database - The AIF project website has detailed information about men and women of the Australian Imperial Force in World War I.

- Immigrant Index Moreton Bay, 1848 - 1859 - Search for your immigrant ancestors on the State Records New South Wales website.
- Picture Australia - The National Library of Australia's Picture Australia site has thousands of historical images of Australia from a number of sources.
- Judy Webster's Queensland Research Tips - Judy Webster's website is full of links, tips and useful information for Queensland researchers.
- Queensland Place Names Search - Search for Queensland place names on the website of The State of Queensland (Department of Natural Resources and Water).
Online mailing lists and discussion forums

Offline resources
- Brisbane City Council Libraries - Births, Deaths and Marriages indexes for some Australian states and time periods, can be viewed on CD-ROM in selected Brisbane City Council libraries. Other useful online databases to aid family history research can be accessed by library members either in the library or in some cases externally.
- Freedom Wall at Mt Coot-tha Botanical Gardens - More than 15000 individual plaques honouring those who died in war can be viewed at the Freedom Wall at the Mt Coot-tha Botanical Gardens, Toowong.
- State Library of Queensland's Family History Collection - The State Library of Queensland Family History Research Service has a large range of resources to help you trace your family history.
- Genealogical Society of Queensland - Find out about the many resources available from the Genealogical Society of Queensland.
- Southern Suburbs Branch Genealogical Society of Queensland - This website of the Southern Suburbs Branch of the Genealogical Society of Queensland also has an online database of members' research interests.
- Queensland Family History Society - The Queensland Family History Society Inc at Gaythorne has a large range of resources for genealogists including an online catalogue of their collection.
- Genealogical Addresses Queensland - The Australian Family History Compendium site has a list of useful genealogical addresses in Queensland.
