Learning doesn’t end once school’s over. There are opportunities to study in Brisbane and learn new skills, regardless of age and experience. Perhaps you want to go back to university or TAFE, become an apprentice or trainee or learn on a short course.
University
Brisbane has three large universities. They all have several campuses and offer a wide range of adult tertiary education and qualifications. Study anything from arts to zoology (and all degrees in between).
Griffith University (GU) has campuses at Mt Gravatt, Nathan, Queensland College of Art, South Bank, Logan, Gold Coast.
Queensland University of Technology (QUT) has four campuses at Gardens Point (in the CBD), Kelvin Grove, Carseldine, Caboolture.
University of Queensland (UQ) has campuses at St Lucia, Ipswich, Gatton (west of Brisbane).
Campuses from other tertiary institutions include:
- the McAuley Campus of Australian Catholic University at Banyo
- Brisbane International Campus of Central Queensland University
Open learning allows you to study from a number of universities (not just those based in Brisbane), online or by distance education.
TAFE
Visit TAFE Queensland to preview the full list of courses available. You can study full time or part time, on campus, at home, at school or at your workplace.
Plus TAFE offers short courses in a relaxed environment to upgrade your skills and cultivate creative talents.
There are 19 TAFE locations in Brisbane, divided into five institutes:
- Brisbane North Institute of TAFE, which incorporates TAFE Open Learning
- Metropolitan South Institute of TAFE
- Southbank Institute of Technology
- Trade and Technician Skills Institute
Vocational education and training for schools

Apprenticeships and traineeships
The federal government site for Australian Apprentices is a good start for information.
And there are many apprenticeships and traineeships offered through Brisbane Institute of TAFE.
