Atari's Asteroids is a simple game done very, very well. Released in arcades in 1979, Asteroids remains Atari's single best ever selling game. Indeed, it was the game that managed to topple Space Invaders from the position of almighty dominance it had held since 1978.
You control a small space ship stuck in a rather worrisome asteroid shower, complete with the periodic arrival of hostile UFOs. Blast away at the asteroids to shatter them into ever smaller and faster chunks until the screen is cleared. Your movement options consist of "rotate", "thrust" and "panic".
Use the cursor keys on your keyboard to turn and thrust, SPACE to fire and CTRL for 'hyperspace'.

- Right now the official high score is 41,336,440. Not bad for a game where the score on screen 'rolls over' (returns to zero) after 99,999 points.
