Local community groups are reminded to get their submissions in for the NRMA Insurance Communityhelp grants program, with only days to go until applications close.
Grants of up to $5,000 are available to grassroots groups being pro-active in crime prevention, road safety, emergency readiness and response, and the environment. Applications close on March 21, 2008.
Acknowledging the important work community groups carry out, and the often limited funds with which they operate, NRMA Insurance State Manager Brett Robinson called on groups across the region to submit applications.
"The work community groups undertake is invaluable - building safer, cleaner, greener and better neighbourhoods for us all.
"As an insurer in Queensland we know that it's local people who are best placed to tackle local issues, so we're pleased to be able to inject funds directly into these grassroots organisations so they can continue to make a real difference," he said.
Across Queensland, more than 84 community organisations have welcomed financial support from NRMA Insurance, including the likes of:
- The Cerebral Palsy League of Queensland, a 2007 recipient of $1,500, which helped to fund the installation of key pad lock security systems in the homes of vulnerable people. The key pad locks allow service providers and police to enter the home, while protecting vulnerable residents, especially those with disabilities, from would-be attackers and thieves.
- The Lamb Island Rural Fire Brigade, a 2007 recipient of $3,000, which helped the Brigade purchase generators and emergency torches to assist with road accidents and disaster management.
- Gumdale Primary School, a 2007 recipient of $1,500, which helped to fund new reflective safety signage for the primary school's car parks, school entry points and in the ‘stop drop and go' zones.
"NRMA Insurance is committed to improving safety around the home and on the road and helping to create positive and safe communities - it's good for our customers, the broader community and our business," Mr Robinson said.
Applications can be downloaded from NRMA Insurance or can be posted out by phoning 1300 306 496.
Applications for the 2008 NRMA Insurance communityhelp grants program close on March 21, 2008 and successful applicants will be notified in June.
