Returning to the big screen in his first starring role in a feature film since Signs and We Were Soldiers in 2002, Mel Gibson has signed on to star in Edge of Darkness.
Casino Royale director Martin Campbell - who also directed the 1985 BBC miniseries from which Edge of Darkness will be adapted - will direct the film.
Gibson is set to play a police investigator who, after delving into his daughter's murder, uncovers the systematic corruption that led to her death.
Gibson has reportedly been a long-time fan of the miniseries and was keen to be involved in the project when approached by Campbell several months ago.
