Think you've got what it takes to create the next Harvie Krumpet? Well, the I Love Little Italy Short Film Festival is just around the corner.
Some people are born to be stars. They've practised their Oscars speech in front of the mirror for years - they know just who to thank and who to artfully omit, and their on-cue tears put Halle to shame. They want Donatella to make the dress, Jimmy to provide the shoes and Brad for their date. They're dying to rub shoulders with Gwyneth, shop on Sunset with Paris, push food round a plate with Lindsay and party-pash Leo.
Too bad that in the meantime they live at home with mum and dad, their closet is more Jeanswest than Valentino, and the closest they've come to Leo is watching The Departed on a big-screen TV. Luckily the I Love Little Italy Short Film Festival is calling for entries from young filmmakers, which could be the first step out of the basement and into a Hollywood studio.
Put down the hairbrush you've been using as a microphone, get out the camera and start shooting. Entries can be in any genre or medium as long as it's a maximum of eight minutes long and incorporates the theme 'red'. Bonus points for nabbing Scarlett Johansson in the starring role.
The deadline is Friday May 9, 2008, at 5pm and the festival is open to the public on June 8 at 8.30pm at the Palace Cinema in Leichhardt, Sydney. There are loads of prizes on offer but the pick of the lot is a cool $2000 for your troubles - just enough for a salad at Nobu.
