Riverfire, Beginning

The sky bursts into colour over Brisbane as Riverfire 2008 comes to life. This image captures the first two minutes of Riverfire, from the flame trail of the first F111 to a crescendo of explosions above the Story Bridge.

The image was taken using a WW2 era press camera - a Graflex Anniversary Speed Graphic - on Velvia 100 film, using a Staeble Magnogon 105mm copy / process lens, salvaged from a long-dismantled process camera. The Speed Graphic loads 4" by 5" sheet film, which means the slide of this shot alone is almost as big as a typical snapshot you get back from a minilab. Consequently, the slide can be enlarged enormously - up to four feet wide - with very little loss in detail.

This is so beautiful. I just wonder where was this picture taken? I want to be at that point to try with my camera this year.
Thanks.
