A 4BK 1940's Live Show for Young People
McWhirter's, a popular Fortitude Valley department store, sponsored the Young Companions, a radio show specifically designed for the involvement and entertainment of young people.
The club met at McWhirter's cafeteria on Saturday mornings for the 4BK broadcast at 10.00am. All members were issued with a certificate and enamel badge, in the shape of a microphone (at top left of picture).
As the club’s membership grew, a purpose-built theatrette was created within the store.
The show's host was Eric Bessemer, 4BK's 'Sunrise Sam', assisted by 'Captain Mac'.
