If you want to pay homage to some of the Brisbane bands which have influenced Australian and international music take a walk down Brunswick Street Mall. Set into the concrete of the busy mall you'll find 10 plaques listing the achievements of diverse local bands. Stroll along the length of the Walk of Fame and read about their musical achievements.

Brisbane band The Go-Betweens were chosen first and the remaining nine were selected from an online vote.

So far on the Walk of Fame you'll find:

  • Savage Garden
  • The Bee Gees
  • The Saints
  • Keith Urban
  • The Go-Betweens
  • Railroad Gin
  • Blowhard
  • Regurgitator
  • Custard
  • Powderfinger

Brisbane's Fortitude Valley always has been, and still is, the nursery for our city's vital live music scene. Intimate venues and clubs have nurtured and developed the unique sounds coming from Brissie bands and we locals love to see them play.

Music buffs might also want to take a look at the display on the site of the old Festival Hall, corner of Charlotte and Albert streets. The old concert venue (also the original place to see boxing and roller derby) was demolished in 2003. In its place is an apartment building but in the foyer you can see a commemorative display with photos reminding us of the rich musical history of the site. Big names played at Festival Hall, including The Beatles, Bob Marley, U2, AC/DC, The Seekers and hundreds more.

But music in Brisbane isn't all about history and the past. No way! There's a pumping live and local music scene across the city today in venues such as The Tivoli and The Zoo. Crawl through our gig guide for live music acts of all genres on this week.

Who would you like to see on Brisbane's Walk of Fame and why?

Jessica from usa says:

i think Darren Hayes, who was part of Savage Garden, should be on the walk of fame. even though savage garden broke up, darren himself is still making great music and should be recognized as such.
