Wheel of Brisbane

Brisbane hasn't reinvented the wheel, we've simply borrowed the popular idea of a giant ferris wheel from which to view our city. Other 'wheels' are tourist attractions in London, Manchester and Perth and give riders a safe but spectacular way to get a true birds' eye view.

Fully owned and operated by World Tourist Attractions Australia, the Wheel of Brisbane stands 60 metres tall (somewhat shorter than London Eye's 135 metres) but impressive nonetheless, illuminating the South Bank skyline and river with thousands of LED lights at night and presenting an exciting new landmark for visitors and locals.

The wheel has 42 air-conditioned, fully enclosed capsules each capable of seating up to 6 adults and 2 children. Each ride is of 12 to 15 minutes duration (which roughly equates to 3 or 4 wheel rotations) and offers unique panoramic 360 degree views of the river and city.

See some great photos of the Wheel of Brisbane.

The Wheel of Brisbane at South Bank is open seven days a week, from 10am to 10pm.

Tickets are $15 for adults, $10 for children 12 years and under and $2 for children aged between 1 year and 3 years. A private gondola (perfect for wedding proposals perhaps?) may be booked at a rate of $95 and a discount is available on tickets purchased online.

Brisbane residents and visitors will have until 2010 to enjoy this exciting new addition to our city’s most popular recreation spot at South Bank.

What a relief to realise this garish monster will only be here for a few years.

I drove past the Brisbane Wheel last night after picking up two colleagues from interstate from the airport. The wheel looked fantastic! A great addition to our skyline. They both commented on how much Brisbane is coming of age. Our city is in such exciting times.

It's big and bold and obvious, but I don't think "garish" quite captures its presence. Brisbane needs more of these types of things - or it'll just stay as the "gateway to the gold/sunshine coasts" and not have anything to attract people in its own right....

It is a better picture than the last one you published if it is $50.00 bucks a pop for a family whats the single person pay out of my price range obviously

Lynne from Tarampa says:

I also think it is pretty expensive. Fine if you are single or each paying your own way, but for a family with two or more children, I just don't think it is affordable.

It cheaper than the one in Singapore. It cost $35 for adults here. Looking forward to ride this June. Almost 10 years since I left Brisbane. Looking forward to the new changes..

I am going on it today, hopefully I get 4 rotations rather than 3. look out down below, I just ate a hotdog and drank a milkshake.

I went on the wheel on the weekend. Not only is it quite stunning on the outside (making it a landmark addition to Southbank), the experience was worth my $15. I hope it stays for a long, long time.

I think it's really pretty at night, even from a distance! Although, it's too expensive for me (a pensioner) to ride!!

I love the brisbane eye , it makes a mark on brisbane and the view is really good. especaily at night time. but i also have to agree on some comments. its very expensive. no need to compare other countries to us . because they should no these days not much people can afford going on that . and when i first seen brisbane eye i really thought it was afforable price for family. i went with my family there and we were shocked how much it was but over all . love the BNE EYE ( =

I would love to go on the wheel, however I agree it is rather expensive. Perhaps they can get the local's in by sending out half price voucher's like the theme parks do - after all the local's are the one's that tell the tourists what is good and if the local's can't afford it they will not promote it.

I went on the wheel with my grandaughter who lives in Brisbane. She has been on it a few times as she takes anyone who comes to stay with her.
I enjoyed the ride and had lots of time to take some great photos. I think its a shame it isn't going to be a permanent fixture.
I am formerly from Brisbane and didn't even know the wheel was in Southbank so maybe some serious advertising is in order to let people know about it.
Also making it cheaper for the locals would encourage them to use it and tell visitors about it.

The surly carnies who staff this wheel told us 5 rotations, but stopped it at 4. The $10 souvenir photo is faked. The wheel is constantly 95% empty. We won't miss this when it goes....
