Jewellery from ARI Jewellery
Whether you’re shopping for a stylish woman, or simply treating yourself to something special, we’re here to help you with a guide to jewellery box must haves.
Contemporary New Farm jeweller Ari Athans has developed a list of the top ten items no woman should be without.
“Jewellery is the most powerful personal expression of individual style,” Ari said. “You never want to feel like you’re spending too much on trends that will be in one day and out the next. Always stick with natural materials and minimal detailing.”
Ari developed this list to help women collect jewellery that will stand the test of time.
- Large cocktail ring - adds a dash of glamour to an outfit. Buy one you love as it will represent your personal style. An amazing rare gem from South America could be a real show stopper.
- Pearl neckpiece – fresh water pearls are a great option for those on a budget. Pearls strung in a post-modern way can also be timeless combined with basalt or jet black garnets.
- Simple gold or silver chain - you can add pendants, charms or just go plain. Attach a Victorian gold or silver locket to add a feminine touch.
- Sparkly long earrings – try a pair of faceted black spinel drops, great for evening wear. (NB: Spinel is a very attractive gemstone, usually red in colour. Black spinel is rarer and resembles black diamond at a fraction of the price.)
- Pair of studs - studs are everyday earrings they work equally well with jeans or a dress. Go plain, not too big and pick a metal colour you like.
- Statement neckpiece - for those occasions that call for high impact style. Don’t go with trends, instead buy a necklace that’s going to last and is made of natural materials such as jet beads.
- Timeless ring - a very wide band in hand-beaten 22k gold worn on the index finger suits a woman of any age.
- Quality watch – watches are worth saving for; make sure you buy quality that reflects your own personal style.
- Brooch – one of the most versatile and underrated jewellery pieces. Brooches can be worn many different ways and create very different looks. You can wear a brooch on a simple, plain T-shirt, cinched at the waist of a silk smock dress, fixed to a woollen scarf, attached to a strap on a dress or positioned on an asymmetric coat.
- Statement bracelet – much like a statement neckpiece, a statement bracelet creates a stunning and bold look. A silver cuff or a chunky link bracelet is a stylish classic.

second hand shops are great for finding vintage jewllery that someone got rid of in a kull or when someone has died. The best stuff is usually below the counter behind glass.. and at a reasonable price.. one offs make you look like you have spent alot when really you have not...
Try the Geebung op shops, i have had luck there...
