Sex and the shoe!

Sex and the City incites a lust for new shoes

Shoes in chandalier

The Sex and the City movie has launched more than just a cinematic sensation in Brisbane. In fact, there might actually be five main characters in Sex and the City: Carrie, Charlotte, Miranda, Samantha...and Shoes.

Even though Manolo and Jimmy feature in the movie religiously, there are plenty of shoes we Brissie girls love to love that also give us that same "shoe high" without the mortgage-sized price tag!

"It's great to see how many people have been seeing Sex and the City at the South Bank cinemas next door and coming in dressed to the nines to pick up a new pair of shoes," says Patrick Chaperon from Izabel Shoes in South Bank. "I think the movie reminds us how good a new pair of shoes can make us feel."

And gentleman, Mr Chaperon is not just referring to the ladies!

"Guys are just as much concerned about what they wear on their feet as the girls," he says. "We have a stunning range of shoes for not only women, but also men."

And let's face it, it's not as if Big is getting around in ten-year-old scuffed shoes.

Even through the pain, when we put on a pair of über-high heels there's a certain hip-sway you just can't get in flats. You actually walk taller and sexier and your confidence is boosted when you wear heels.

Unlike Carrie, who seems to be able to tip-toe around perennially in the highest of high heels, professionals (we mean physiotherapists and chiropractors!) suggest opting for a good mix of ballet flats, sandals and heels in your shoe wardrobe.

There's certainly a great selection of hot heels at Izabel Shoes, but you'll also find a good selection of sprightly flats and warming boots.

Izabel Shoes stocks more than ten designer labels for women, including Peep Toe, Tilly Rose, Vincenza and Natasha, and for the gents, Brando, Democrata and Martinelli from Spain. Also included in the design roster at Izabel Shoes are fabulous Brisbane-based footwear labels Oswald Orr and Nat-Sui. There's even something sexual in the name of the comfort factor of Oswald Orr's shoes, "secret pleasure zone", that elicits a slightly tingly sensation! We wonder if that name itself was inspired by an episode of Sex and the City?

Hot tip

Serious shoe lovers can park free at South Bank, see the film, buy a pair of shoes and get their parking ticket validated by Izabel Shoes when they spend $30 or more.
