Over 100 fashion design students from Metropolitan South Institute of TAFE (MSIT) presented their mid year collections this week in a parade that warmed the 700 strong audience with its colour and creativity.
Combining the talent of 1st, 2nd and 3rd Year students, the inaugural mid year parade, 'half time', at the Mt Gravatt campus gave students a fantastic opportunity to learn about the needs of industry through live parade experience.
Creative Industries Portfolio Manager at MSIT, Martin Watts, said a mid year parade was now necessary in addition to the end of year parade, due to the quantity and quality of designs being produced by the students.
"Working to deadlines in the fashion industry is often a very stressful situation. Events such as 'half time' provide the students with invaluable practical experience on how to prepare their collections under tight timeframes. It also allows them to showcase their talent to the industry and to the public - this builds their confidence and allows them to receive feedback about their collections," he said.
The event was attended by top industry representatives, leading designers and retailers.
MSIT's practical delivery is obviously working with students going on to work with top designers such as Easton Pearson, Marc Jacobs, Bonds, Billabong and Colorado.
