We’ve all heard horror hair removal stories. Perhaps you’ve even shed a tear as hot wax prickles your delicate skin or you may have once left a brow shaping treatment with a permanent look of surprise after a brazen ‘expert’ has tweezered your eyebrows into an elfin high arch.

Yes, waxing and hair removal can be a mine-field of disasters but thanks to Tara, our resident beauty and wellbeing aficionado, we’re pleased to announce our first 'Brisbane's best waxing' list.

Tara is the founder of Brisbane’s own Pampered.com.au, which is a gift voucher website dedicated to the world of being pampered. You can visit Tara’s website and purchase gift vouchers for 180 national day spas, hair salons, beauticians or personal trainers.

She loves a great brow shape, happily road-tests those treatments we speak of in hushed tones over a glass of vino on a girls' night out and is happy to share her experiences and recommendations here on ourbrisbane.com.

So in the interest of public safety (read on, it’ll make sense) and silky smooth bods, here's Tara first 'best of waxing' list and remember, you can add your suggestions by leaving a comment.

Tara's best of Brisbane waxing

A frugal work colleague of mine told me about a disastrous experience attempting her own waxing. The description made me cringe hearing about her subsequent visit to emergency, which (painfully) involved blood and stitches. She now whole heartedly agrees that waxing is best left to the experts!

I was once told by a makeup artist my eyes were too close together and the only thing that could solve my very distressing predicament was a polished wax! I have been on the search ever since for the waxer with the mostest and believe myself to be a bit of an expert in the ratings of eye brow sculptors!

My top marks go to Riverside Beauty at Noosa (do yourselves a favour if you are going on hol hols to Noosa), Radiant Beauty at Mooloolaba (the owner took 20 minutes just sculpting away and I have to say my eyes have never felt so far apart).

I have had brows trimmed with scissors, pencill coloured in afterwards and also had beauticians who use strip wax (aggh scary) and looked at me like I was an alien with eyes that were close together when I asked for the kinder wax.

So thanks for the advice - I cant wait to visit the vegas to try out The Brow Bar!

I went to the Brow Bar and loved it! It is expensive - but you're there for 45 mins - 1 hour and the girls take sooooo much care with your brow shape, the plucking, the line and even put a little make-up on you so you don't leave with red puffy brows. Highly recommend the experience if you have a special event or if you are in need of help to regrow / fix a botch job.

I have been going to Bronzed Brazilian now for about 12 months, and they are fabulous!! I've had Brazilians at lots of other places, but the waxing I have at Bronzed Brazilian is the most pain free I've ever had (they talk about their special technique... and now I believe them!) and they only charge $49!
They have two salons at Cannon Hill & Capalaba, but you have to book well before hand as they get really busy (They do great spray tans too)
If you are thinking about any type of waxing, I cant recommend them highly enough (and neither can the lady downstairs!! lol

Have tried many places over the years and am so glad I found Amaroo Essential Therapies at Sunnybank Hills. It is a lovely warm and friendly place to visit and the staff are great.

Sue, thanks for your tip on Amaroo Essential Therapies. I went there yesterday and had my Brazilian done. Have had brazilians done from a lot of female therapists and this was the first time I had it done by a male. It was fantastic, the least painful I have ever experienced.
