Ascot hasn't undergone the recent gentrification noticable in many other Brisbane suburbs. Instead, it has always been one of Brisbane's most prestigious areas and home to a number of impressive, sprawling mansions complete with tennis courts and more.

But perhaps it will surprise some to discover that there are also pockets of smaller cottages, units and townhouses, especially in the streets within walking distance of thriving Racecourse Road, which offers boutique shopping and alfresco dining.

Being near the Eagle Farm and Doomben Racecourses means Ascot is always busy come race day. The CityCat stop at Bretts Wharf allows a pleasant ferry ride into the CBD.

Local kids love the big shady figs and playground at Oriel Park and there are a number of private and public schools close by.
