Brisbane City Council is encouraging residents to don their gardening gear and take part in the Neighbourhood Shadeways community tree planting event in their local suburb. See a list of tree planting events.

Neighbourhood Shadeways community tree planting

The community tree planting event is a great opportunity for families to enjoy the great outdoors and do something worthwhile to make their neighbourhood cooler, shadier, greener, and more carbon-friendly.

Over the past two months, more than 65 residents have come together to plant trees in Bracken Ridge and surrounding areas as part of Council’s Neighbourhood Shadeways program.

The tree planting will target the most shade-hungry streets and means residents can continue to enjoy Brisbane’s outdoor lifestyle with cooler, shady paths for walking and cycling.

After the tree planting volunteer recruits will be rewarded with cold refreshments and a BBQ making this the perfect day out with friends, neighbours and the family.

The newly planted street trees will be maintained using recycled water and when they grow will assist in the reduction of emissions by 600 tonnes from the energy saving of increased tree shade in the neighbourhood.

So come along to your local tree planting day wearing your gardening clothes, hat and closed in shoes and enjoy the sunshine and don’t forget your water bottle and sunscreen!
