Profile
Hendra is located 6 kilometres northeast of the Brisbane CBD and borders the Gateway Motorway, Nundah, Clayfield, and Ascot.
As with its neighbouring suburbs Hendra is predominantly a family-oriented community. The local school (Hendra Secondary College) is supplemented by state and private schools in the neighbouring suburbs.
Westfield Shoppingtown Toombul complements Hendra’s local stores and services residents with major retail and supermarket outlets. For those willing to travel a bit further Lutwyche shopping centre and Westfield Shoppingtown Chermside are also close by.
Hendra plays host to the Doomben Racecourse, parks, bike and walkways. Kedron Brook runs through Hendra, Nundah and Wooloowin and has walking and biking paths running alongside.
Public transport services in the area are excellent with the northern train line running through the area and Hendra, Albion, Wooloowin, Eagle Junction, and Toombul train stations all close by. Regular bus services also make getting into and out of the City easy for Hendra residents.
Brisbane’s Domestic and International Airports are just as easily accessible by car or the new sky train.
Apart from some light industrial and commercial lots, Hendra is zoned Residential A and therefore all residential properties are houses. For those wanting to build new homes a few vacant blocks are still available but buyers must be quick as supply is limited.
The area has seen a progression of residents from retirees and older residents to young families and couples. Residential development has been slowing and new buyers have been opting for renovation of older housing.
According to the 2006 Census there were 4,115 people living in the suburb with a median age of 39. The median individual income was $677 per week. Of all occupied private dwellings 65.5% were either fully owned or being purchased; 24.9% were being rented.
