Snapshot

Phat Da Buddhist Temple in Deodor Street, Inala provides a venue for meditation and has a small library. Inala has some great community meeting places with the Inala Cultural Centre and Community Art Gallery. Did you know that the suburb name 'Durack' has only been used since 1976? The Richlands School is the oldest of all the schools in the Inala district and was established on 12 June 1934.

Shopping

Forgot a few things at the regular grocery shop? Why not leave the car keys behind and pick up what you need on the way home from the bus stop, or take a walk or bike ride to the local shops. Mt Ommaney Shopping Centre is the major shopping centre in your area and is only a bus ride away.

Family fun

For kids: check your local playground - parks in Brisbane have anything from skatebowls to toddler play. In your area, try Elizabeth Bruce Playground or Len Waters Place in Inala or the nearby Forest Lake Lions Park in Ellen Grove for family fun.

For dogs: check out the local off-leash areas where Fido can release canine tension. Try the Inala Reservoir or Clive McDermott Place in Inala or the park off Mabel Street in Oxley.

Meet friends

No need to travel far for coffee or a meal - catch up with friends at Darra. This area is now a thriving cultural centre after its upgrade in late 2000. It offers authentic Asian dining and great shopping. Visit Station Road and Railway Parade and find the colourful handmade ceramic tiles on the footpath, created by local students for all to enjoy. Also have a look at the series of striking timber and metal sculptures. At Biota Street, Inala, check out the 'happy faces' balustrade and unique rock art seats. Or try Cook Street and Oxley Station Road, Oxley - recently revitalised and well worth a visit.

Exercise

Who's got time? Everyone, if you make exercise part of your everyday life. You could walk to the nearest stop and catch the bus to work, or take the kids to school. 3 x 10 mins daily exercise is recommended for good health. For fitness and fun, try your nearest Active and Healthy Park including CJ Greenfield Reserve in Inala or Ducie Street Park in Darra.

The weekend

Escape from the city to the great outdoors: and in Brisbane, you don't have to go far. Take a picnic to the local park at the Centenary Highway Park in Darra, Atthows Park in Darra or Kev Hooper Memorial Park in Inala. Many of the parks in Inala were named after significant citizens of the area. Visit the nearby Lake Parklands in Forest Lake, Brisbane's largest recreational lake. Sailing, canoeing, basketball, skating, rollerblading and playgrounds are on offer at this terrific spot. Keen golfers are spoilt for choice in your area with the Oxley Golf Course and the Corinda Golf Course.

Learn

Release your mind at the Inala Library, where you'll find not only books but also CDs, DVDs, videos, free internet access, even storytelling sessions for children. You'll also find books and magazines in Spanish and Vietnamese and internet training sessions in languages other than English. Phone the library for details.
