Sports lovers and active people are well catered for with the Clem Jones Centre.

The "Belmont Flyer" train operated in the area from 1912 until 1926. Did you know that Ebenezer Thorne owned land on Creek Road in the 1850s and named his homestead "Carina" after his daughter, Kate Carina?

Shopping

Forgot a few things at the regular grocery shop? Why not leave the car keys behind and pick up what you need on the way home from the bus stop, or take a walk or bike ride to the local shops.

Only a bus ride away is Westfield Carindale, opened in 1979, the shopping centre is a 15 minute drive from Brisbane’s CBD. The centre offers a large range of fashion retailers along with services and a major cinema complex.

Westfield Garden City has over 300 retailers and also boasts the popular outdoor Town Square which is home to popular restaurants, cafes and a 16-screen Birch Carroll & Coyle Megaplex.

Family fun

For kids:

Parks for kids are great! Check out your local playground because parks in Brisbane have anything from skatebowls to toddler play. In your area try:

  • Meadowlands Picnic Ground, off Meadowlands Road, along Bulimba Creek.

Take a break

Discover the secrets of your local area. Enjoy the many and varied walking tracks and bikeways along Bulimba Creek. Go wildlife spotting and soak up Brisbane's beautiful scenery.

Food & drink

No need to travel far for coffee or a meal - catch up with friends at Carina. The historic tram tracks and early settlement history feature in street artwork and have created a unique look for the area.

Nearby Mount Gravatt Central offers a relaxing shopping experience with integrated artwork such as totems, balustrades and footpath designs.

Exercise

Who's got time? Everyone, if you make exercise part of your everyday life. You could walk to the nearest stop and catch the bus to work, or take the kids to school. 3 x 10 mins daily exercise is recommended for good health.

Sports lovers and active people are well catered for with the Clem Jones Centre. You'll enjoy five swimming pools and a gym as well as squash and tennis courts all for a very reasonable fee.

The weekend

Escape from the city to the great outdoors - you don't have to go far in Brisbane. Enjoy a picnic at your local park, try Carindale Recreation Reserve or Minnippi Wetlands. The Minnippi Wetlands are part of the Bulimba Creek corridor and offer paths right throughout the area. Relax with a BBQ after your bushwalk.

Take a stroll through the Whites Hill Reserve at Carina Heights. This 171-hectare bushland reserve has walking tracks, playground equipment and picnic areas.

Release your mind at Carindale or Carina Libraries, where you'll find not only books but CDs, DVDs, videos, free internet access, even storytelling sessions for children (phone libraries for details).
