An older, mostly residential suburb, Newmarket features a mix of pre-war, post-war and classic Queenslander homes along with a sprinkling of modern, architect-designed houses.

Just 5km from the CBD, it also boasts the closest caravan park to the city.

There's a superb public swimming pool in Sedgeley Park, open in the spring/summer months, and several sporting ovals that are home to various football clubs.

Locals shop at the Newmarket Shopping Centre, which features a supermarket, health services and speciality shops that cater to a well-heeled crowd.

The local pub - the historic (and completely renovated) Newmarket Hotel - attracts a lively crowd most nights of the week.
