Welcome to Red Hill
With city views and so close to the CBD, Red Hill is a popular suburb with a unique character and instantly recognisable features such as the high set old Queenslander houses on "stilts" which frequently amaze interstate and overseas visitors to Brisbane.
Dominated by St Brigids, a red brick church with spectacular city views, Red Hill stretches away on either side of busy Musgrave Road. St Brigids is more than a landmark, it's also a gathering spot for those wishing to view fireworks away from the crowds on Brisbane's celebratory occasions.
Until recent years Red Hill was famous for the Red Hill Skate Arena on the corner of Enoggera Terrace and Musgrave Road. Previously a cinema in the 1920s, the building was destroyed by fire in 2002.
On the corner of Enoggera and Kennedy Terrace stands the heritage-listed former Ithaca Town Council Chambers which until the late 1990s operated as a Brisbane City Council Library.
Further down Enoggera Terrace towards Paddington is another heritage-listed and well known landmark - the former Ithaca Fire Station.
On Musgrave Road is the famous Normanby Hotel, one of Brisbane's most well known and best pubs.
And who could forget that Red Hill is home to the Brisbane Broncos!
Another claim to fame is the novel "Zigzag Street" by Nick Earls which is set in the Red Hill street of the same name.
Red Hill has access to plenty of shops and restaurants, including award-winning Italian restaurant Biagio and it is only a short distance from neighbouring Paddington with a range of specialty boutique, antique, furniture and gift shops.
