Of all Brisbane's suburbs, South Brisbane has had the most amazing transformation over the last decades.

Once a mainly industrial area with wharves and derelict buildings, the South Brisbane we know today began with the building of the Cultural Centre in the 1970s, followed by World Expo '88 marking an exciting new way of life for Brisbane residents and finally with South Bank Parklands, now Brisbane's most popular recreational and cultural destination equally popular with both tourists and locals.

Easily accessible from the city by all means of public transport or a pleasant walk or bike ride, South Brisbane has everything from swish hotels and funky restaurants to some of Brisbane's most beautiful old buildings such as St Andrew's Anglican Church and the former South Brisbane Municipal Chambers in Vulture Street.

South Brisbane is also home to some of Brisbane's most distinguished schools as well as the Southbank Institute of Technology.

Norma says: I love South Brisbane cos that's where South Bank is. I began my new life as an Aussie there, (arriving at the station) I worked there as a teenager, I took my children to play there, and to see Expo 88. The place is full of wonderful memories. When I go there now I feel I'm on holiday.
