Profile
St Lucia, about four kilometres from Brisbane's CBD, is a prestige western suburb that has benefited from its proximity to the city, the Brisbane River and local facilities.
With easy access to the City along Coronation Drive or via the ferry system, St Lucia offers quiet suburban living with good infrastructure, dominated by the University of Queensland.
St Lucia's central location, access to the University and other facilities will undoubtedly continue to attract investors and tenants. With the University of Queensland only minutes away, easy access to Mt Coot-tha and other facilities like the Indooroopilly shopping centre, St Lucia is popular with university students and those working in the city.
The CityCat catamaran ferry service and buses also make St Lucia an ideal place to live.
Apart from the University, which provides student and employees with many facilities, the local residents also benefit from the University infrastructure. This includes excellent sporting facilities, cinemas, restaurants, an Olympic-size swimming pool, the libraries and bookshops.
The suburb also boasts its own commercial district that features a supermarkets, cafes, restaurants and delicatessens.
According to the 2006 Census there were 10,612 people living in the suburb with a median age of 23. The median individual income was $293 per week. Of all occupied private dwellings, 39.6% were either fully owned or being purchased; 49% were being rented.
