Profile

Taringa is located five kilometres south west of the Brisbane CBD. The suburb has easy access to the city via Coronation Drive or Milton Road, and offers a quiet suburban lifestyle with good access to major infrastructure.

The University of Queensland is only minutes away in St Lucia, while major shopping, retail and commercial centres are located in Taringa and nearby Indooroopilly and Toowong. The suburb is handy to the CBD and also benefits from the rail line into the City and a frequent bus service. These factors all help to make Taringa popular with university students, young professionals and families alike.

The mix of housing types is distinct with a clear divide between high and medium rise blocks of units in some areas and largely renovated Queenslanders in others. There are also a number of newer architecturally designed homes throughout the suburb.

A number of new medium density housing projects have been developed over the last few years, aimed at the young CBD professional rental market and students from the University of Queensland.

According to the 2006 Census there were 7,490 people living in the suburb with a median age of 29. The median individual income was $604 per week. Of all occupied private dwellings 41.9% were either fully owned or being purchased; 46.4% were being rented.
